The Tissue Optical Spectroscopy Lab (TOpS Lab) is directed by Professor Nimmi Ramanujam. The laboratory is part of the Biomedical Engineering Department within the Pratt School of Engineering. Dr. Ramanujam’s laboratories are located in the Fitzpatrick Center for Interdisciplinary Engineering, Medicine and Applied Sciences (FCIEMAS), which was designed to foster interdisciplinary approaches to research in a number of engineering fields in 2004. The mission of TOpS Lab is to develop novel optical diagnostic tools to aid in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The Lab’s
research ranges from the development of mathematical models to describe
the basic physics of light propagation in turbid media (tissue) to engineering
new optical technologies for clinical diagnosis of breast and squamous
epithelial cancers both in vivo and ex vivo.
