Location: Duke University, Durham, NC

Description:
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. The objective of our research efforts is to engineer spectroscopic and imaging techniques for the quantitative assessment of the molecular changes associated with oncogenesis and cancer progression.  The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be involved in the development and application of steady-state and lifetime based fluorescence imaging techniques for biological systems including cell culture, animal models, and clinical studies and will work in collaboration with engineers, biologists, and clinicians. The applicant will have access to state-of-the-art resources in biomedical photonics and fluorescence imaging.  This position will also provide a unique opportunity to gain experience in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Qualifications of applicant:
Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in an appropriate field of engineering, physical science or biological sciences. The applicant must be capable of developing experimental and modeling skills and have experience with lasers, fiber optics, CCD cameras, spectroscopy and light transport in turbid media. Previous experience in fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy and/or imaging, cell culture and small animal studies is particularly helpful.  Excellent organizational and communication skills are a must.
